Richard J. Henderson

Richard Henderson is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA). He attended Muskingum College (B.A.), Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (M.Div.) and Drew University Theological School (D.Min). His doctoral dissertation combined a study of the parables of Jesus with an exploration of preaching in parables as a contemporary form of communication in the church.

After serving the First Presbyterian Church of Northville, Michigan for four years, Dr. Henderson was called to start a new church development in Novi, Michigan. He has served that church, Faith Community Presbyterian Church since 1976. He and his wife, Sheila, have two grown children, Jennifer and Jonathan.

Dr. Henderson has published a number of poems, and for each of the past twenty years regularly has had his sermons published. He confesses to having a love affair with the parables for more than two decades. A book of his original parables is being prepared under the title, In a Mirror Dimly.

Dr. Henderson has written both the Resource Book and the Leader's Guide for Parables: Stories for Life in God's World. Prior to publication, he field-tested the material with the congregation in Novi. We are grateful for this participation in this project and for their helpful comments and encouragement.
